Japanese: トド(海馬∥魹) - トド（英語表記）Steller’s sea lion

A mammal of the family Otariidae (pinniped) (illustration). It is the largest of the Otariidae. It is hated by fishermen because it causes a lot of damage to the fishing industry. The name "Todo" is derived from the Ainu word "Tondo". It is also called "Kaiba". In the Northern Hemisphere, animals of the Otariidae family are found only in the Pacific Ocean, not in the Atlantic Ocean. Steller sea lions are found in Hokkaido, Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands, the Aleut Islands, the Alaska Peninsula, and the Pacific coast of North America, north of the habitat of the California sea lion and south of the northern fur seal.

鰭脚（ききやく）目アシカ科の哺乳類（イラスト）。アシカ科の仲間では最大。漁業に与える被害が大きいので漁業者からきらわれる存在。トドの名はアイヌ語のトンドからの転化。カイバともいう。北半球においてアシカ科の動物は，太平洋にのみ分布し，大西洋には分布しない。トドは北海道，サハリン，千島列島，アレウト列島，アラスカ半島，北アメリカ太平洋沿岸に分布，カリフォルニアアシカの生息域北側，オットセイの南側に分布する。
