French politician. Having served as Louis XV's private tutor, he was highly trusted by the king, and in 1726, at the age of 73, he became Secretary of State and Cardinal, from which he held great power for the next 17 years. Externally, he participated in the War of the Polish Succession in an attempt to restore Louis XV's father-in-law, Stanisław I, as King of Poland, and domestically he fought with the Parlementary Court for criticizing Jansenism, but he also took into consideration the stability of the currency and the development of industry, and ran a relatively stable political system. フランスの政治家。ルイ15世の家庭教師をしていたところから国王の信頼があつく，1726年，73歳で国務卿，枢機卿となり，以後17年間大きな権力を握った。対外的には，ルイ15世の義父スタニスワフ1世をポーランド王に復位させようとしてポーランド継承戦争に参加し，国内では，ジャンセニスムを非難したことで高等法院と争ったが，通貨の安定や産業の発展にも配慮し，比較的安定した政治を行った。【林田伸一】
