The Doctrine and Treatise of Learning - Gakuyoronmo

...A general term for the Chinese Analects, Mencius, Great Learning, and Doctrine of the Mean. Also called the Learning and Doctrine of the Mean, it has been respected since the Song Dynasty's Neo-Confucianism as embodying the essence of Confucianism. The Great Learning and Doctrine of the Mean were originally two chapters in the Book of Rites, but they came to be particularly valued, and Zhu Xi created the Annotated Collection of Verses from the Four Books to accompany the Doctrine and Doctrine of the Mean.
