Generally, all shares in the same company are in principle on an equal footing, and their rights and interests are equal. However, different types of shares with different contents on certain matters are permitted (Commercial Code Article 222). When a company has two or more types of shares with respect to certain rights, the standard stock is called a common stock, and those that are recognized as having preferential contents, i.e., so-called priority rights, based on this common stock are called preferred stocks, and those that are recognized as having subordinate contents are called subordinate stocks.
