It is a domestic dog that originated in England. It was bred by crossbreeding a bulldog with an old breed of dog, the Old English white terrier, in order to give the fighting bulldog the agility of a terrier, and the name was derived from the crossbreeding of the two. By the time it was bred, dog fighting had already been banned, so this dog has no history as a fighting dog. Unlike its original purpose, its personality is gentle, cooperative, and affectionate. Its appearance is gently curved from the top of the head to the tip of the nose, with no stop, rather small eyes, erect ears, and a fearsome appearance, which is the exact opposite of its personality.

原産地がイギリスの家庭犬。闘犬ブルドッグにテリア種の敏しょうさを求めて，ブルドッグと古い犬種オールド･イングリッシュ･ホワイト･テリアOld English white terrierとを混血して育種されたイヌで，名称は両者の混血から生まれた。作出されたころには闘犬競技はすでに禁止されており，このイヌの闘犬としての歴史はない。性格は初期の目的とは異なり，穏和，協調的で愛情細やかである。容貌は頭頂から鼻端まで緩やかな曲線をえがき，ストップはなく，目はやや小さく，立耳で恐ろしさがあり，性格とは正反対である。
