An American research institute engaged in research, education, and publications in economics, political science, foreign policy, and other general social sciences. Its primary objectives are to conduct basic research to inform policymaking and to promote public understanding of issues of national importance. It was established in Washington, DC on December 8, 1927, by merging three existing research institutes (the first of which had been established in 1916). The institute's name commemorates its founder, Robert Brookings (1850-1932), a St. Louis merchant and philanthropist.

アメリカの研究機関。経済学，政治学，外交政策，その他社会科学一般について，研究，教育，出版に従事する。そのおもな目的は政策立案に資するための基礎的な研究を行うこと，および国家的重要性をもつ問題に対して大衆の理解を促進することにある。1927年12月8日，既存の三つの研究機関（最初のは1916年創立）を統合して，ワシントンD.C.に設立された。研究所の名称は，セント･ルイスの商人で慈善家であった創立者ブルッキングズRobert Brookings（1850-1932）を記念するものである。
