The name of a port in Shiga County, Omi Province. The ancient name of Otsu. During the time of Emperor Tenchi's Omi-Otsu Palace, it was an important port (i.e. Otsu), but after the Jinshin War in 672, Otsu Palace was abandoned, and it became the port of the ancient capital, and eventually came to be called Furutsu. Alternatively, it is thought that in 761, Hora Palace was established in the same Omi Province, and Awazu at the mouth of the Seta River was named Furutsu, and therefore Furutsu was named Furutsu. In 794, Emperor Kanmu renamed Furutsu to Otsu when he moved the capital to Heian-kyo, but it is said that he restored the former good name of Furutsu (Nihonkiryaku). In 768, Furutsu Manor was donated to Saidaiji Temple in Nara, and it consisted of a manor house and cultivated fields, but it seems that it had lost its substance by the end of the 12th century. In 1277, he unloaded rice tax from Tara-sho in Wakasa Province at Furuhama. In the Omi Yochishiryaku, the name is pronounced "kotsu." Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
