Windsor Castle - Windsor Castle

Japanese: ウィンザー城 - ウィンザーじょう(英語表記)Windsor Castle
Windsor Castle - Windsor Castle
A castle built on the south bank of the River Thames, west of London, the capital of England. It is the main residence of the British royal family. It was built by William I in the 1070s, and Henry II remodeled it from wood to stone, and after subsequent expansions and alterations, it became one of the most representative palaces in England. The central Round Tower stands on a small hill from the Norman period, and is a shell keep with a central courtyard. It was built by Henry II in the late 1170s (the upper two floors are from the 19th century). St. George's Chapel is a Gothic building in the Perpendicular style with a beautiful fan vault, completed in 1528. In November 1992, it was severely damaged by a fire that broke out in the chapel in Chester Tower in the northeast. It houses the Royal Art Collection, which contains portraits of the royal family and many works of art collected by successive kings, some of which are open to the public (→ Royal Art Collection at Windsor Castle).
