... As the sand moves, the grains become rounded and polished, and often develop small, irregular holes or grooves on their surface, or an overall frosted appearance. These are good indicators for identifying aeolian sand.

Sand dunes include barchan dunes, transverse dunes, seif dunes, longitudinal dunes, parabolic dunes, star dunes, Nebkha dunes, and shadow dunes (Figure 2). When the supply of sand is relatively small, barchan dunes form, with a gentle slope on the windward side and a steep, arc-shaped slip face on the leeward side (the maximum angle of repose is 34 degrees).
