Pratihara Dynasty - Pratihara Dynasty

Japanese: プラティーハーラ朝 - プラティーハーラちょう(英語表記)Pratīhāra
Pratihara Dynasty - Pratihara Dynasty
A dynasty in northern India from the 8th to 11th centuries. It originated from the Gurjara tribe, who invaded northwestern India around the 5th century, and rose up in Rajasthan. In the mid-8th century, it conquered the middle Ganges region and made Kanauj its capital. It reached its peak in the 9th century under Bhoja I (reigned c. 836-885) and Mahendrapala (reigned c. 885-908), and extended to Sindh in the west, the Narmada River in the south, and Bengal in the east. However, as the power of the dynasty weakened due to years of conflict between the Pala and Rashtrakuta dynasties, the princes under its rule became independent one after another. It was attacked by Mahmud of the Ghazni Empire in the early 11th century, and was destroyed in the middle of the century.
