Brazil nuts

Japanese: ブラジルナッツ - ぶらじるなっつ(英語表記)Brazil nut
Brazil nuts

A tall tree of the family Barringtaceae (APG classification: Barringtaceae). It grows in the Amazon region of South America, reaching a height of 40 meters, with a trunk that is 0.9 to 1.8 meters in diameter. The leaves are oblong, about 20 centimeters long, with pointed tips and short petioles. The small white flowers bloom in clusters on the flower stalk. The fruits are spherical, about 10 to 15 centimeters in diameter, and are surrounded by a hard, woody shell about 2 centimeters thick. When ripe, they fall naturally. Inside the shell are 12 to 24 crescent-shaped seeds, each 5 centimeters long. The seeds have a hard, woody outer skin with a thin brown skin inside, and the flesh is white, 66% fat and 14% protein. The main production areas are Brazil and Venezuela, where they are collected from virgin forests and exported to various parts of the world, especially to Europe and the United States.
