Androgenic gland

Japanese: 造雄腺 - ぞうゆうせん（英語表記）androgenic gland

Also called the male gonad. A string-like glandular endocrine tissue attached to part of the internal reproductive organs of animals belonging to the subclass Malacostraca. It is found in males in dioecious species and in male phases in hermaphroditic species. In most cases, it consists of several cells attached to the walls of the vas deferens or seminal vesicles, and in some isopods, it is attached to the tip of the testis. The androgenic gland was first described in a type of crab, but H. Charniaux-Cotton (1954) revealed its physiological function in the giant sand dollar and gave it this name.

雄性腺ともいう。甲殻類，軟甲亜綱に属する動物の内部生殖器官の一部に付着する紐状の腺性内分泌組織で，雌雄異体の種では雄に，雌雄同体の種では雄相のときにみられる。多くの場合，輸精管か貯精囊の壁に付着する数個の細胞からなり，等脚目の一部では精巣の先端に付着している。造雄腺は最初ワタリガニの一種で記載されたものであるが，シャルニオ･コットンH.Charniaux‐Cotton(1954)がオオハマトビムシでその生理作用を明らかにし，この名をつけた。
