Unsaturated polyester resin - Fuhouwa polyester resin

A thermosetting resin made by crosslinking a relatively low molecular weight unsaturated polyester obtained by the polycondensation reaction of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid with a glycol, and by copolymerizing this with a vinyl monomer. Maleic anhydride, fumaric acid, etc. are used as the unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, and phthalic anhydride, adipic acid, etc. are co-condensed to adjust the amount of double bonds. Ethylene glycol, di- or triethylene glycol, propylene glycol, etc. are used as glycols. In general, resins obtained from glycols with ether bonds have reduced heat resistance and water resistance. When crosslinking by copolymerization with a vinyl monomer (styrene, vinyl toluene, chlorostyrene, vinyl acetate, acrylic ester, etc.), various organic peroxides, diazo compounds, and other radical polymerization initiators and curing accelerators are used. Since no by-products are produced during curing, low-pressure molding is possible. Most glass fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) are made of this type of resin, and they are also used as paints, laminates, and casting resins.

不飽和ジカルボン酸とグリコールとの重縮合反応によって得た，比較的低分子量の不飽和ポリエステル，およびこれをビニルモノマーとの共重合で架橋させた熱硬化性樹脂．不飽和ジカルボン酸としては無水マレイン酸，フマル酸などが用いられ，二重結合の量を調節するために無水フタル酸，アジピン酸などが共縮合される．グリコールとしてはエチレングリコール，ジまたはトリエチレングリコール，プロピレングリコールなどが用いられる．一般に，エーテル結合をもつグリコールから得られる樹脂は，耐熱性，耐水性を低下させる．ビニルモノマー(スチレン，ビニルトルエン，クロロスチレン，酢酸ビニル，アクリル酸エステルなど)との共重合によって架橋させる際には，種々の有機過酸化物やジアゾ化合物などのラジカル重合開始剤および硬化促進剤が用いられる．硬化において副生成物の生成を伴わないので低圧成形可能である．ガラス繊維強化プラスチック(FRP)のほとんどはこの種の樹脂であり，そのほか塗料，積層材，注型用の樹脂として用いられる．
