Japanese: 舟の内 - ふねのうち

The title of a Japanese music piece. A combination of Kawato-bushi and Itchu-bushi. The original title is "Sumida-gawa Fune no Uchi." It was written before 1723 (Kyoho 8). The lyrics, composition, and the place of the first performance are unknown. It is based on the Noh play "Sumida-gawa." It is about March 15th, and the wife of a certain Yoshida who lives in Shirakawa, north of the capital, comes to the banks of the Sumida River in search of her son Umewakamaru, who was kidnapped by a human trafficker. She asks the ferryman about the boy's death in this place last year, and the plot is that the mother is being prayed for. It is the oldest surviving combination song that tells the story of the ferryman in Itchu-bushi and Umewakamaru's mother in Kawato-bushi, and is considered an important piece in the study of Japanese music history.

邦楽の曲名。河東節と一中節の掛合曲。本名題《隅田川舟の内》。1723年(享保8)以前の成立。作詞･作曲，初演の場所など未詳。原拠は能の《隅田川》。頃は3月15日，都北白川に住む吉田某の妻が，人商人にさらわれたわが子梅若丸を尋ねて，隅田川のほとりに来る。渡し守にきくと，その子は昨年この場所で空しくなったというので，母は回向にかかるという筋。渡し守を一中節で，梅若丸の母を河東節で語る現存する最古の掛合曲で，邦楽史研究のうえからも重要曲とされる。
