Japanese: 鈴慕 - れいぼ

The title of a classical shakuhachi piece (a piece that is not arranged from a piece for another instrument, but is an original piece for the shakuhachi). It is said that "Reibo" was the name of a piece composed in admiration of the sound of a bell struck by the Chinese monk Fuke, but there is no confirmation of this. It may have simply been used as part of the title to mean "shakuhachi piece." There were different pieces with the same name (although they were largely the same but slightly different) handed down in Fuke sect temples around the country, and pieces that seem to have organized and classified these are called "Kyushu Reibo," "Mutsu Reibo," and "Echigo Reibo," and are handed down in the Kinko school and other schools.

尺八の古典本曲 (ほかの楽器の曲から編曲されたのではなく，尺八本来の曲) の曲名。「鈴慕」とは，中国の僧普化 (ふけ) 禅師の振鳴らした鐸 (たく) の音を慕って作曲された曲名といわれるが，確証はない。単に「尺八曲」の意味で曲名の一部に用いられたとも考えられる。各地の普化宗寺に同名異曲 (ただし大同小異) が伝承されていたが，これらを整理分類したと思われる曲が，『九州鈴慕』『陸奥鈴慕』『越後鈴慕』などで，琴古流その他諸流に伝承されている。
