The main line of the Kiyohara clan. Also spelled Funabashi. Originally called Takakura, Hidekata, the son of the Minister of Finance Kiyohara Kunikata, was recommended by the Minister of the Left Konoe Nobutada and was granted imperial permission to be a member of the court, and the family was called Funabashi. The family's status was half-family. The family was of Myokyo-do descent and had made Confucianism its family business for generations, with the head of the family becoming a Myokyo-do doctor, and the example of a man becoming a non-councillor after passing through the ranks of Shusui-no-sho, Shonagon, and Jinju. In the Edo period, he was awarded a stipend of 400 koku. Hidekata was an accomplished scholar, and was ordered by Tokugawa Ieyasu to collect old books, and also served as a reader to both Emperor Goyozei and Emperor Gomizunoo. 清原氏の嫡流。船橋とも書く。初め高倉と称したが,大蔵卿清原国賢の子である式部少輔秀賢のときに,左大臣近衛信尹の推挙によって堂上を勅許され,以来舟橋と称するようになった。家格は半家。明経道の家柄で代々儒道を家業とし,当主は明経博士となり,主水正,少納言,侍従を経て非参議に進むのを例とした。江戸時代には家禄400石を給された。秀賢は学才があり,徳川家康の命を受けて古書の収集に努め,また後陽成・後水尾両天皇の侍読を務めた。
