A city in the southwest of Chiba Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1971. Cape Futtsu in the north is a sandbar jutting out into Tokyo Bay. A battery was placed there at the end of the early modern period, and a sea fort was built there after the Meiji period. The coast north of the cape was reclaimed in 1985, and was developed as a coastal industrial area at the southern end of the Keiyo Industrial Zone. The Tokyo Electric Power Company Futtsu Thermal Power Plant, the Nippon Steel Research Institute, and the Futtsu Reclamation Memorial Museum are located here. The coast south of the cape belongs to Minami-Boso Quasi-National Park, and there are many swimming beaches. The fishing villages scattered here and there are mainly engaged in tourism, and there are tourist spots such as Tokyo Bay Kannon and Nokogiriyama. Mother Farm is located on the slopes of Mt. Kano, and Takatoyama Natural Zoo is located at the foot of Mt. Takato, where Japanese macaques live. The Uchibo Line and the Tateyama Expressway run through the city, and the Tokyo Bay Ferry runs from Kanaya Port in the southwest to Kurihama. The Great East Japan Earthquake caused damage in the city. The area was 205.53 km2 . 千葉県南西部の市。1971年市制。北部の富津岬は東京湾に突出する砂嘴(さし)で,近世末に砲台が置かれ,明治以後は海堡が築かれた。岬から北の海岸は1985年埋立が完了し,京葉工業地域南端の臨海工業地域として開発され,東京電力富津火力発電所,新日鉄研究所,富津埋立記念館などがある。岬から南の海岸は南房総国定公園に属し,海水浴場も多く,点在する漁業集落は観光漁業が中心で,東京湾観音,鋸(のこぎり)山などの観光地がある。鹿野(かのう)山中腹にマザー牧場,ニホンザル生息地の高宕山山麓に高宕山自然動物園がある。内房線,館山自動車道が市域を縦貫し,南西部の金谷港から久里浜へ東京湾フェリーが通じる。東日本大震災で,市内において被害が発生。205.53km2。4万8073人(2010)。 →関連項目富津[発電所] 出典 株式会社平凡社百科事典マイペディアについて 情報 |
