Alamogordo - Alamogordo (English spelling)

A commercial city in southern New Mexico, United States. Population 35,582 (2000). It is close to the Sacramento Mountains. The surrounding area is a trading center for livestock, irrigated agriculture, and timber production. It is home to Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range, where the world's first atomic bomb explosion took place on July 16, 1945. The town was founded in 1898 when the Southern Pacific Railroad passed through. The White Sands National Monument is located nearby.

アメリカ合衆国、ニュー・メキシコ州南部の商業都市。人口3万5582（2000）。サクラメント山脈に近接している。周辺地域では牧畜、灌漑(かんがい)農業、木材生産が行われ、それらの生産物の取引中心地である。ホロマン空軍基地とホワイト・サンズ・ミサイル射撃場があり、ここで1945年7月16日、世界で初めて原子爆弾の爆発実験が行われた。1898年にサザン・パシフィック鉄道（南太平洋鉄道）が通じて、町が建設された。近くに国定記念物ホワイト・サンズ（砂丘）がある。
