Japanese: 託身 - たくしん（英語表記）commendatio; commendation

In medieval European feudal society, it meant entrusting oneself to one's lord, and in the narrow sense, it was a legal act that formally established the relationship of lord and servant. Between feudal nobles and peasants, it meant that the free peasants entrusted all of their person and property to the powerful man, and in return received the right to use the land, i.e., they became serfs. In the relationship between feudal nobles and lords, entrustment was achieved by the vassal's service as a vassal, the oath of loyalty, and the lord's intention to protect his vassals by granting them fiefs, and a ceremony was held in which the lord's hands were placed on top of each other to symbolize this.

ヨーロッパ中世封建社会において，一身を主君に託することを意味し，狭義にはその主従関係を正式に定める場合の法行為をいう。封建貴族と農民との間では，自由民である農民が人格と所有をすべて有力者にゆだね，そのかわりとして土地の使用権を得ること，すなわち農奴となることを意味し，また封建貴族間の主従関係では，家士の臣従としての奉仕，忠誠の宣誓と，主君の家士に対する封土の授与による保護意思の表示という行為によって託身が行われ，その象徴として両手を重ねて主君の手のひらに載せる儀式が行われた。
