A court poet in the mid-Heian period. He was the son of Yoshinobu and the father of Ise no Taifu. He became a chief priest and a Jingi haku (master of ceremonies). He became a poet under the tutelage of Yoshinobu at the end of the 10th century, when the style of poetry of the Three Generations of Emperors was perfected. He first served Fujiwara no Asamitsu (Left General of Kan'in), but eventually Michinaga and Yorimichi recognized his talent as a Jingi official and promoted him to the rank of Shosanmi (third rank) and Jingi haku (master of ceremonies). He was also highly valued as a summoned poet for poetry gatherings, folding screen poems, and Daijoe poems. He was a judge at the Kayanoin Suikaku Utaawase (poetry contest at Kayanoin Suikaku) in 1035 (8th year of the Chogen era). He died on June 24th, 2nd year of the Choryaku era. He was 85 years old. Some of the fine poems he wrote in his youth are, "Ashihiki mountain, the cuckoo's home is so familiar that at twilight I can hardly hear its name" (Shuishu), and he has 31 poems selected for the Imperial anthology, and his family anthology, Fushinshu, was selected by his children.
