Autumn Wind Song

The title of a koto piece. The lyrics were written by Takamukusanjin, also known as Makita Ganmon, and the music was composed by Mitsuzaki Kengyo during the Tenpo era (1830-1844). The theme of the piece is the love affair between Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty of China and Yang Guifei, and the lyrics incorporate Bai Juyi's "Song of Everlasting Regret." The title comes from the fact that Yang Guifei was killed in Mawei in the autumn winds while fleeing to Sichuan during the Anrokuzan Incident. This piece is important as it opened up a new path for the koto, which had traditionally been subordinate to the shamisen, with its unique melody and rhythmic progressions. The piece has an overall quiet, solemn melody, and uses the "Akikaze key," which is made up of the interval relationships Mi, Fa, La, Si, Re, Mi.

箏曲(そうきょく)の曲名。天保(てんぽう)年間（1830～1844）高向山人(たかむくさんじん)こと蒔田雁門(まきたがんもん)作詞、光崎検校(みつざきけんぎょう)作曲。中国、唐の玄宗皇帝と楊貴妃(ようきひ)との恋愛をテーマに、白楽天(はくらくてん)の『長恨歌(ちょうごんか)』を詞章に取り入れている。安禄山(あんろくざん)の変のおり、四川(しせん)に逃れる途中、楊貴妃が秋風の吹く馬嵬(ばかい)で殺されたことから、この題名がついた。従来、三味線に従属していた箏(こと)が、箏独自の旋律やリズム進行で、新しい道を切り開いた作品として重要。全体に静かで、もの寂しい曲調につくられ、ミ・ファ・ラ・シ・レ・ミの音程関係でできた「秋風調子」を用いている。
