Uakari - Uakari (English spelling)

Japanese: ウアカリ - うあかり（英語表記）uakari

A general term for New World monkeys belonging to the genus Cacajao in the family Capuchin monkeys of the order Primates. These small monkeys have bald heads and red faces that give them an eerie impression. This genus includes three species: the red uakari C. rubicundus , which has a bright red face and reddish-brown fur; the white uakari (also called the bald uakari C. calvus ), which has a red face but grayish-white fur; and the black uakari C. melanocephalus , which has a blackish face and fur. All of them have a short head and body length of about 40 cm and a short tail of about 15 cm.

霊長目オマキザル科ウアカリ属Cacajaoに属する新世界ザルの総称。はげ頭と赤い顔で不気味な印象を与える小型のサルたちである。この属には，鮮紅色の顔と赤褐色の体毛をもつアカウアカリC.rubicundusと，顔は赤いが体毛が灰白色のシロウアカリ(ハゲウアカリともいう)C.calvus，顔も体毛も黒っぽいクロウアカリC.melanocephalusの3種が含まれる。いずれも頭胴長は約40cm，尾は約15cmと短い。
