A sonno joi (sonno joi) samurai of the Mito domain who was at the center of the uprising at Mount Tsukuba at the end of the Edo period. His given name was Nobu, his pen name was Kotatsu, and he was commonly known as Koshiro. He also changed his name to Ono Tsuneo. His father was one of the greatest contributors to the later Mito school of thought, Fujita Toko, a supporter of the Tenpo Reforms, and his mother was Toki Saki, and he was the fourth son and illegitimate child. He lost his father at the age of 12, and studied under Kayane Iyonosuke and Hara Ichinoshin, among others, before entering the Kodokan. In the spring of 1863 (Bunkyu 3), he accompanied the domain lord Tokugawa Yoshiatsu to Tokyo, where he became acquainted with sonno joi samurai of the Choshu domain, including Katsura Kogoro and Kusaka Genzui, and was active as a sonno joi samurai, such as persuading court nobles, before returning to Edo. In order to carry out Sonno Joi after the political upheaval of August 18, 1863, and in response to the departure of the expulsion of foreigners inspector Arisugawa Miya Taruhito from the east, the uprising of Sonno Joi factions from the Tottori and Okayama domains in Edo, and the visit of a senior retainer of the Choshu domain to Kyoto, he planned with Katsura and volunteers from the Tottori domain for the Sonno Joi faction of the Mito domain to rise up in arms. In March 1864, led by Tamaru Inanoemon, he raised an army on Mount Tsukuba, and in October, he joined the army of Takeda Kounsai and headed for Kyoto, but surrendered to the Kanazawa domain on the way, and was executed in Tsuruga by order of the shogunate. He is said to have been good at calligraphy and painting.

幕末の筑波山挙兵の中心となった尊攘派水戸藩士。諱は信,字は子立,通称は小四郎。小野贇男と変名する。父は後期水戸学の大成者のひとりで天保改革派の藤田東湖,母は土岐さき,4男,庶子。12歳で父と死別,茅根伊予之介,原市之進らに学び弘道館に入る。文久3(1863)年春,藩主徳川慶篤の上京に従い桂小五郎,久坂玄瑞をはじめとする尊攘派長州藩士らを知り公家に入説するなど尊攘派として活動して江戸に戻る。文久3年の8月18日の政変後の尊攘派退潮のなかで尊攘実行を図るため,攘夷監察使有栖川宮熾仁の東下と鳥取,岡山両藩尊攘派の江戸での決起,長州藩家老の上京と呼応するかたちで水戸藩尊攘派の挙兵を桂や鳥取藩有志らと計画した。元治1(1864)年3月,田丸稲之衛門を盟主として筑波山で挙兵,10月,武田耕雲斎の軍と合流,京を目指したが,途中で金沢藩に降伏,幕命により敦賀で斬罪。書画をよくしたという。
