Dipterocarpus (double-leafed persimmon)

Japanese: フタバガキ(双葉柿) - フタバガキ(英語表記)Dipterocarpus
Dipterocarpus (double-leafed persimmon)
A tree of the genus Dipterocarpus in the family Dipterocarpaceae (illustration). There are about 75 species in Southeast Asia, from India and Sri Lanka to the Philippines, and they are common in the tropical rainforests of Borneo, Sumatra, the Malay Peninsula, and Mindanao. Most are evergreen, reach a height of 50 to 60 meters and a diameter of 1 to 2 meters, have straight, cylindrical trunks, and are tall below the branches. However, several species from Myanmar to Indochina are deciduous in the dry season and are short in height. Buttress roots are not well developed. The twigs are thick and the stipule scars are clear.
