A scholar of Japanese classics in the late Edo period. He lived in Mikkaichi, Miyauchi, Kayo County, Bitchu Province (Kita Ward, Okayama City). His father was Takaku. He was commonly known as Tadanojo, and his given name was Takanori, and his family name was Matsuya. He became the chief priest of Kibitsu Shrine and was appointed as Nagato no Kami, Junior Fifth Rank. He became a disciple of Motoori Norinaga. His book Mitsu no Shirube (published in 1826) consists of the first volume, "Michi no Shirube," which explains the theory of the ancient ways, the second volume, "Uta no Shirube," and the third volume, "Fumi no Shirube." In his theory of poetry, he inherited Norinaga's theory of "mono no aware," and criticized Ozawa Roan's theory of "tadakoto." Other works include "A New Interpretation of the Tales of Ise" (1813) and "Matsuya Self-Selected Poems."
