Floor soil - Tokotsuchi

This refers to the soil packed into shallow wooden boxes or other seedbeds. Seedbed seedling raising is convenient for intensive pest control and fertilizer management, and is used for forcing vegetables and for raising seedlings for mechanized transplanting. Bed soil should be fertile, have excellent breathability and heat retention, do not harden even with frequent irrigation, and be light enough that there is little risk of cutting the root hairs when transplanting. Leaf mold and the like are suitable for bed soil. Generally, compost is often applied to bed soil. Recently, other methods have been adopted, such as hydroponic seedling raising using rice husk charcoal and urethane, and the use of coated fertilizers as basal fertilizer for the entire seedling box for rice.

浅い木箱などの苗床に詰める土をいう。苗床育苗は病虫害防除と肥培管理を集約的に行うのに都合がよいため、促成栽培の野菜類や機械田植の育苗に用いられる。床土は肥沃(ひよく)で通気性と保温性に優れ、灌水(かんすい)を頻繁に行っても土が固まらず、移植に際し根毛の切れる心配の少ない軽い土がよい。腐葉土などは床土として適している。一般に床土には堆肥(たいひ)が多く施用される。最近ではもみ殻薫炭(くんたん)、ウレタンなどを使用した養液育苗法、コーティング肥料（被覆肥料）を使用した水稲の育苗箱全量基肥なども行われている。
