せち【節】

〘名〙① とき、時節。季節。※経信母集(11C中か)「やよひの日かずのうちに、夏のせちのきたるをわきまへ」② 季節のかわりめの祝日。節供(せっく)。節日(せちにち)。せつ。※宇津保(970‐999頃)内侍督「せちする時の騎射(まゆみ)・競馬(くらべうま)も、さらに見所なしかし」③ 節日、とくに正月の馳走。節振舞(せちぶるまい)。※忠見集(960頃)「ある所の御屏風に正月せちする」※波形本狂言・末広(室町末‐近世初)「一族達にお節(セチ)を申す」④ =せち(節)の旗(はた)※御代始鈔(1461頃)御禊の行幸の事「節下の大臣といふ事あり。節といふは旗の名なり。世俗には大かしらと名付く」

せっ‐・する【節】

〘他サ変〙 せっ・す 〘他サ変〙① 物事の程度をちょうどよくする。適度にする。調節する。※福翁百話(1897)〈福沢諭吉〉八四「暑中熱するときは氷を室内に解かし、冬は石炭又は蒸気を以て寒温を節(セッ)すべし」② 数量や程度を制限して減らす。また、控えめにして抑える。〔文明本節用集(室町中)〕※破垣(1901)〈内田魯庵〉四「会員は無用の虚飾を謹み冗費を節して教育慈善等の公益に義捐する事」

よ【節】

〘名〙① 竹・葦(あし)などの、ふしとふしとの間。ふしの間の中空の部分。多く、歌などに「世」「夜」などと掛けて用いる。※竹取(9C末‐10C初)「此子を見つけて後に竹とるに、節(ふし)を隔ててよごとに黄金ある竹を見つくる事かさなりぬ」② 転じて、竹・葦などの、ふし。※平治(1220頃か)上「其後大きなる竹のよをとほして入道の口にあてて、もとどりを具してほりうづむ」

ぶし【節】

〘語素〙 邦楽の声楽曲の流派名や民謡の曲名を表わすのに用いる。「義太夫節」「木曾節」など。
