It is an exoproctidae of the family Mycorrhizae. It is found in shallow seas all over Japan and the world. It attaches to fishing nets, boat bottoms, and various underwater facilities, forming fan-shaped or grass-like colonies about 5 cm high. The colonies are brown to purplish brown and branch out into many parts, with two rows of worm chambers on each branch. Both sides of the front edge of each chamber protrude slightly, but there are no spines. Spherical egg chambers are formed on the front edge of the chambers, and when there are many of them, they appear to be lined up in a row. Early in the morning, the larvae swim out of the egg chambers and attach to other objects after a few hours. They are considered one of the fouling organisms because they attach to various objects to form colonies and cause damage. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
