Nakamikado family

Japanese:
Nakamikado family

A nobleman of the Kanjuji line of the Northern branch of the Fujiwara clan. A distinguished family with the highest rank of Gon Dainagon. The family's origins lie in Tsunetsugu, the fourth son of Bojo Tsunetoshi, son of Kanjuji Suketsune, who took the name Nakamikado in the late Kamakura period. For generations, the family served as aides to the emperor, and Akitoyo, Nobutane, and Nobuhide in the Muromachi period were all highly educated and protected the ancient customs of the Imperial Court in its decline. In the Edo period, the family's stipend was 200 koku, and Nobumochi, the second son of Hisayoshi, established the Okazaki family as a branch family. During the middle and late Edo period, many people died young, and adopted children were adopted from other families. Tsuneyuki, who lived at the end of the Edo period, made an outstanding contribution to the Meiji Restoration, and after the Restoration, he was ranked among the nobility and his son Tsuneaki became a count due to his family's status, but in 1888 (Meiji 21) Tsuneyuki was awarded a marquis in recognition of his achievements. Furthermore, Tsuneyuki's third son, Takaie, branched off from the family and was awarded the title of baron. In addition, the descendants of Yorimune, the second son of the regent Michinaga, once called themselves Nakamikado, but later took the name Matsuki, which continues to this day.
