?-1921 A leader of the Iranian nationalist movement based in Gilan during and immediately after World War I. After joining the constitutional revolutionary militia in Rasht, Gilan province, he organized the "Jungari (forest partisans)" under the banner of Islam during the war, and resisted to liberate Iran from imperialist rule. He expanded his influence immediately after the war, and in 1918, after a clash with British forces heading for Baku, he concluded an agreement.
