...The main points of the Act were (1) to abolish African representation in parliament, (2) to divide the African regions into 10 regions based on language and culture, and (3) to allow each region to have autonomy and independence in the future. Based on this Act, the Transkei Autonomous Government was established as the first Bantustan in December 1963, followed by KwaZulu (March 1972), Bophuthatswana (May 1972), Ciskei (July 1972), Lebowa (September 1972), Gazankulu and Venda (January 1973), Basotho Qwa Qwa (October 1974), and KaNgwane (September 1977). However, KwaNdebele was placed under the Bantu Government Institutions Act of 1951.
