Founded in 1896 as Nippon Seito Sugar Co., Ltd., taking over the business of Suzuki Sugar Co., Ltd., the company absorbed Nippon Seito Sugar Co., Ltd. in 1906 and changed its name to Dainihon Sugar Co., Ltd. Since 1909, the company has grown under the management of Fujiyama Raita, expanding into Taiwan and the South Seas and becoming the leading sugar company in the Orient. After World War II, the company was reorganized as an overseas company, and rebuilt in 1950 using assets from the mainland. After the liberalization of raw sugar imports in 1963, the company's management deteriorated.
