Philip [II] - Philip
King of Macedonia (reigned 359-336 BC). Father of Alexander the Great. After ascending to the throne, he put an end to internal conflicts and unified Macedonia, reformed the military system, and advanced into Greece, seizing control of the Amphiktyonia. After winning the Battle of Chaeronea, he formed the Corinthian League, and as its leader he dominated the Greek world. He was assassinated while preparing for an expedition to Persia.

マケドニア王(在位前359年―前336年)。アレクサンドロス(大王)の父。即位後,内紛を収めてマケドニアを統一,軍制を改革し,ギリシアに進出して隣保同盟(アンフィクテュオニア)の実権を握った。カイロネイアの戦に勝ってコリントス同盟を結成し,その盟主となってギリシア世界を支配。ペルシア遠征の準備中に暗殺された。
