King of Macedonia (reigned 359-336 BC). Father of Alexander the Great. After ascending to the throne, he put an end to internal conflicts and unified Macedonia, reformed the military system, and advanced into Greece, seizing control of the Amphiktyonia. After winning the Battle of Chaeronea, he formed the Corinthian League, and as its leader he dominated the Greek world.
