Phacolith (English spelling)

Japanese: ファコリス（英語表記）phacolith

A lenticular, harmonic intrusive body that intrudes into the syncline or anticline of a folded stratum, following the surrounding structure. It is a rock body that intruded when tectonic forces were acting in the crust. When rocks are folded, a place of reduced pressure is created at the top, and magma intrudes into this place, forming a harmonic rock body. Phacoliths are intrusive bodies in orogenic belts, and the rocks that make up phacoliths are often gabbros and granite. The name was coined by A. Harker (1909).

褶曲した地層の向斜部や背斜部にまわりの構造にそって貫入したレンズ状の調和的貫入岩体。地殻のなかに構造的な力が作用しているときに貫入した岩体である。岩石が褶曲するときに，その頂部に圧力の減少したところができ，そこへマグマが貫入してきて，調和的な岩体ができると考えられる。ファコリスは造山帯の貫入岩体であり，ファコリスをつくる岩石には，斑レイ岩や花コウ岩などが多い。ハーカーA.Harkerが命名(1909)。
