Gundolf - Gundolf (English spelling) Friedrich Gundolf

Gundolf - Gundolf (English spelling) Friedrich Gundolf

German (Jewish) literary historian and poet. His real name was F. Gundelfinger. He was born in Darmstadt. He studied literature, philosophy, and history at universities in Munich, Heidelberg, and Berlin. He was a member of the "Kunstsöshi" group from 1899. He became a professor at the University of Heidelberg in 1920. He was one of George Kreis's most talented and emotionally gifted students, and was George's favorite student, but he broke off his relationship with his teacher in 1926. His achievements in the field of spiritual history are summarized in his biographical narrations, which are examples of the so-called "monumental history" of life, which grasps great artists as symbols of their eras. His major works include "Shakespeare and the German Spirit" (1911), "Goethe" (1916), "George" (1920), and two volumes of "The Romantics" (1930-31). He edited his own "Poems" (1930) and "Yearbook for Mental Activity" (1910-12). His style, using beautiful and sparkling German, is full of charm, but there is also the danger of self-intoxication. His "Complete Works of Shakespeare in German" (6 volumes, 1908-14) is noteworthy. In 1958, the Gundolf Library was established at the Institute of German Culture, University of London.

Gundelfinger。
