A general term for lizards in the Pygopodidae family that are related to geckos. Of the 32 known species, all but two live in New Guinea and are found in Australia. Most are 50-75cm long, but the worm-shaped Aprasia lizards are small, measuring 15-20cm. Their bodies are long and snake-like with degenerated limbs, but their skeletal structure is similar to that of geckos, and like geckos, their eyes are covered by a single sheet of transparent scales with fixed eyelids.
