Among sieves made of metal mesh or metal perforated plates for measuring particle size distribution, those that comply with the standards prescribed in the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS Z 8801). For mesh sieves, the mesh size is specified to be from 125 mm to 22 μm in nominal dimensions, following the R40/3 sequence, and for perforated plates (plate sieves), the mesh size is specified to be from 125 mm to 5 mm in nominal dimensions, following the R20 sequence. As JIS Z 8801 is called Test Sieves in English, this standard sieve is mainly intended for testing purposes, and there are several standards for Test Sieves both internationally and at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and industrial standards in each country are generally set along these lines.
