Hyakinthos

Japanese: ヒュアキントス（英語表記）Hyakinthos

A beautiful young man in Greek mythology. Born in Amycrai near Sparta, he was the son of Amyklaas, the city's namesake. He became the beloved son of Apollo, but Zephyrus, the god of the west wind, who had a crush on him, became jealous and during a game of cards, Apollo threw a discus that hit him in the forehead, killing him. The blood that flowed from the wound produced a hyacinth flower, and the petals of this flower are said to be inscribed with Apollo's cry of anguish, "Aye-aye."

ギリシア神話の美少年。スパルタに近いアミュクライの生れで，この市の名祖アミュクラスの息子。アポロンの愛童となったが，彼に横恋慕した西風の神ゼフュロスが嫉妬して，遊技の最中にアポロンの投げた円盤を彼の額に命中させ，落命させた。このとき傷口から流れた血から生じたのが，ヒアシンスの花で，この花びらには，「アイアイ」というアポロンの悲嘆の叫びが文字で記されているという。
