A former town in Aira County in the northeastern part of Kagoshima Prefecture. Located in the upper reaches of the Sendai River, it produces rice, tobacco, tea, flowers (persimmons), green onions, and livestock farming is also thriving. The town is connected by the Hisatsu Line and the Kyushu Expressway. The foothills of the Kirishima mountains in the east belong to the Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park, and are home to Kurinotake Onsen. In March 2005, it merged with Yoshimatsu Town in Aira County to become a town, called Yusui Town. Area: 89.85 km2 . Population: 8,063 (2003). 鹿児島県北東部,姶良(あいら)郡の旧町。川内(せんだい)川上流にあり,米,タバコ,茶,花卉(かき),ネギなどを産し,畜産も盛ん。肥薩線と九州自動車道が通じている。東部の霧島山麓は霧島錦江湾国立公園に属し,栗野岳温泉がある。2005年3月姶良郡吉松町と合併し町制,湧水町となる。89.85km2。8063人(2003)。
