Pepin [III] - Pepin

Japanese: ピピン[3世] - ピピン
Pepin [III] - Pepin
King of the Franks (reigned 751-768). Founder of the Carolingian dynasty. Known as Pepin the Younger. He succeeded his father Charles Martel as mayor of the palace, and ascended to the throne after deposing Childerich III, the Merovingian king. He defeated the Lombards, seized the Ravenna region, and donated it to the Pope in return for his accession to the throne (the Donation of Pepin). This was the origin of the Papal States.
