Commander-in-chief of Sweden. In office from 1471 to 1597 and 1501 to 1503. During the Kalmar Union period, Sweden was practically under Danish control, but he repelled the Danish army and gained the support of the people to become a monarch. He temporarily eliminated the economic domination of the Hanseatic cities, but later adopted a flexible foreign policy, such as forming an alliance with the cities to counter Russia and Denmark, suppressing opposing forces both from within and outside the country, stabilizing the country in constant conflict, and solidifying the foundation for independence.
