Clown triggerfish (clown triggerfish)

Japanese: モンガラカワハギ(紋殻皮剝) - モンガラカワハギ（英語表記）clown triggerfish

A marine fish of the Tetraodontiformes order and family Triggerfish. Its beautiful and colorful appearance makes it popular at aquariums around the country. It is widely distributed from southern Japan to Southeast Asia, the east coast of Australia, the coast of the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, and the east coast of Africa. Its body is oval and laterally compressed, covered with bony scales, and the side of the caudal peduncle has small spines arranged in roughly two rows. The base color of the body is black, but there are three to four vertical rows of slightly large, round yellow spots from the sides to the ventral side, and a yellow net-like pattern on the dorsal side and caudal peduncle.

フグ目モンガラカワハギ科の海産魚。色彩が豊かで美しいため各地の水族館で人気を集めている。南日本から東南アジア，オーストラリア東岸，インド洋沿岸，紅海，アフリカ東岸にわたり広く分布する。　体は卵形で側扁し，骨質のうろこでおおわれ，尾柄の側面には小棘（しようきよく）がほぼ2列に並ぶ。体の地色は黒いが，体側から腹側にかけて，やや大型の丸い黄色斑が3～4縦列をなし，背側と尾柄部には黄色の網目状の模様がある。
