Japanese: 皮脂腺 - ひしせん

Also known as sebaceous glands or hair follicle glands. A type of skin gland found in mammals that secretes fat. Distributed all over the body except the palms and soles of the feet, they secrete sebum, which is made up of fatty acids and cholesterol, to moisturize the hair and skin and prevent them from drying out. Some glands, such as the labial glands, vulvar glands, and anal glands, do not have hair. The glandular body is located in the dermis, and the excretory duct opens into the hair follicle. Fat gradually accumulates in the glandular cells, and eventually the cells break down to produce a secretion.

脂腺，毛包腺とも。哺乳(ほにゅう)類の皮膚腺の一種で，脂肪を分泌する。てのひら，足底を除く全身に分布し，脂肪酸やコレステロールを成分とする皮脂を分泌し，毛や皮膚を潤し，乾燥を防ぐ。口唇腺，外陰腺，肛門腺など，毛を伴わないものもある。腺体は真皮の中にあり，排出管は毛包に開口する。腺細胞の中に次第に脂肪がたまり，ついには細胞がこわれて分泌物となる。
