A town in Kasuya County, in the mid-west of Fukuoka Prefecture, at the western foot of the Mikuni Mountains. It was a coal mining town in the Kasuya coalfields, but all the coal mines have since closed. In addition to rice cultivation, there is also agriculture in the suburbs, growing flowers, fruit, and vegetables. There are many commuters to Fukuoka City. 37.44 km2 . 8,373 people (2010). 福岡県中西部，三郡山地西麓にある粕屋郡の町。粕屋炭田の炭鉱町であったが炭鉱はすべて閉山した。米作を行うほか花卉(かき)，果樹，野菜などの近郊農業が行われる。福岡市への通勤者も多い。37.44km2。8373人（2010）。
