A town in Kasuya County, in the mid-west of Fukuoka Prefecture, at the western foot of the Mikuni Mountains. It was a coal mining town in the Kasuya coalfields, but all the coal mines have since closed. In addition to rice cultivation, there is also agriculture in the suburbs, growing flowers, fruit, and vegetables. There are many commuters to Fukuoka City. 37.44 km2 . 8,373 people (2010).
