Tidal flats [town] - Hikata

Japanese: 干潟[町] - ひかた

A former town in Katori County, northeastern Chiba Prefecture. It straddles the Shimousa Plateau and the northern part of the Kujukuri Plain. The so-called "80,000 koku tidal flats," which were created by draining the Tsubakiumi Sea in the early modern period, are one of the prefecture's leading grain-producing areas. The Otone Irrigation Canal runs through the town, and it produces rice, vegetables, and other produce. It is home to the historic home of Ohara Yugaku. In July 2005, it was incorporated into Kaijo Town, Kaijo County, Iioka Town, and Asahi City. 32.44 ^km2 . 8,312 people (2003).

千葉県北東部，香取郡の旧町。下総(しもうさ)台地と九十九里平野北部にまたがる。近世に椿海を干拓したいわゆる〈干潟八万石〉は県内有数の穀倉地帯。大利根用水が通じ，米，蔬菜などを産する。大原幽学の生家（史跡）がある。2005年７月海上郡海上町，飯岡町と旭市へ編入。32.44km²。8312人（2003）。
