One of the four major schools of legal science officially recognized in Sunni Islam. Founded by Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal (780-855), this school of law seeks to find all answers to religious problems in the Quran and the traditions (hadith) of the Prophet's Sunnah. It maintains that legal judgments based on personal opinions or analogies should be suppressed. Due to its rigid conservatism, this school of law has had a great influence as the source of modern restorationist movements.

イスラム教スンニー派において公認されている四大法学派の一つ。アフマド・イブン・ハンバル Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal (780～855) によって創設された。この法学派は宗教上の問題を解決するにあたって，その答えをすべてコーランと預言者のスンナについての伝承 (ハディース) のなかに見出そうとする。個人の独自の意見や類推による法学的判断は抑制されるべきであると主張している。この法学派は，そのかたくなな保守主義のため，近現代の復古運動の源流として大きな影響を与えている。
