Earthquake disaster caused by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake (Hyogo Prefecture Southern Earthquake) that occurred at 5:46 on January 17, 1995 (Heisei 7). The death toll was 6,425, 2 people were missing, over 40,000 were injured, over 200,000 homes were completely or partially destroyed, and over 7,000 homes were completely or partially burned. Lifeline facilities such as roads, railways, and other transportation networks, gas, water, electricity, and telephones were cut off, and revetments and port facilities were destroyed.
