Āmol (English spelling)

Japanese: アーモル（英語表記）Āmol

A city in the central part of Mazandaran Province in northern Iran. Located near the Caspian Sea, on the northern foot of the Elburz Mountains and on the banks of the Khalkhaz River, it is a summer resort. It is a producer of oranges and rice, and there are also coal and iron mines nearby. There are ancient ruins that were destroyed by the Mongols and Timur, and were left in ruins by earthquakes, as well as the Imam Zade-mir Bozorg Mosque. Population: 139,923 (1991).
