Iranian author. Proponent of modern Iranian colloquial prose literature. Son of Jamal al-Din Isfahani, a famous popular preacher during the Iranian Constitutional Revolution. Born in Isfahan, he studied in Beirut, Paris, and Lausanne. He joined the nationalist movement in Iraq during World War I, and later participated in editing the literary magazine Kaveh, written by Iranian intellectuals in Berlin. In 1921, he published a collection of short stories, Once Upon a Time, published by Kaveh (Berlin), which was seen as a manifesto for modern Persian literature in colloquial prose and had a revolutionary impact.

イランの作家。現代イランの口語散文文学の提唱者。イラン立憲革命期の著名な大衆説教者ジャマーロッディーン･イスファハーニーの子。イスファハーンに生まれ，ベイルート，パリ，ローザンヌに遊学。第1次大戦中イラクで民族主義運動に加わり，後ベルリンでイラン人知識人による文学誌《カーベ》の編集に参画。1921年カーベ社(ベルリン)から短編集《むかしむかし》を上梓，口語散文による現代ペルシア文学のマニフェストとみなされ革命的な衝撃を与えた。
