Iranian author. Proponent of modern Iranian colloquial prose literature. Son of Jamal al-Din Isfahani, a famous popular preacher during the Iranian Constitutional Revolution. Born in Isfahan, he studied in Beirut, Paris, and Lausanne. He joined the nationalist movement in Iraq during World War I, and later participated in editing the literary magazine Kaveh, written by Iranian intellectuals in Berlin. In 1921, he published a collection of short stories, Once Upon a Time, published by Kaveh (Berlin), which was seen as a manifesto for modern Persian literature in colloquial prose and had a revolutionary impact.
