Indian novelist and thinker. He started out writing novels in English, but later switched to Bengali. He is considered the "father of Bengali literature" and influenced Tagore and others. He published many patriotic historical novels. The patriotic song "Bande Mataram" from "The Anond Monastery" was a popular song during the Indian independence movement.
